So spent the entire weekend with the band, hanging out at verious coffee shops, bringing our guitars along, and basically spending hours there just playing, lauging along, and writing songs, half of which will probably never see the light of day (The Polio Song, anyone?). But the awesome thing about these jambays is that we probably would’ve been kicked out of these coffee shops ages ago, but we haven’t.
Anyway, we’ve been able to write a few new songs and I’m finding the ecclectic mix of infuences nice. I have a jazz background, while the others listen to various forms of rock. And I noticed the different songwriting styles we all have.When I write, I tend to write a song completely, and the structure and lyrics of the song would be more or less complete when I present it to the band. As for Bok and Perf, they’d usually present a half-complete riff with a line or two and we’d spend days brainstorming and arranging the song.
I’m not saying which approach is better. My songs, though complete, tend to be simpler, while Bok’s songs often end up in epic arrangements because of the ideas we all throw in.
In conclusion, I apologize for this half-assed blog entry. I promise to write better.
